About GridSemi
GridSemi is a Kenyan technology company building HVTM — an AI-powered health monitor for the distribution transformers African grids depend on. We started from a simple observation: utilities replace transformers after they fail, because seeing failure coming has never been affordable at distribution scale. We're changing that.
Our Story
Who We Are
Across Africa, distribution transformers fail years ahead of their design life — and nobody sees it coming. Kenya alone counts thousands of faulty or overloaded units at any given time, each failure cutting power to the homes, clinics and businesses downstream for weeks. The monitoring technology that could catch these failures early exists, but it was built for transmission networks and costs tens of thousands of dollars per transformer.
GridSemi was founded in Nairobi in 2026 to close that gap. We pair low-cost, clamp-on sensing hardware designed in-house with machine learning built for distribution assets — so any transformer, from a rural mini-grid to an industrial site, can be monitored for roughly 2% of what replacing it costs.
